Sloan
Rita Sloan is the Coordinator for the Life Peace & Justice Commission for the Diocese of Reno, as well as coordinator for Alternatives to Violence Project Nevada (AVP Nevada). After working for twenty years with the Washoe County School District as a school secretary, Rita took early retirement to finish college, earning a bachelor’s degree in philosophy at the University of Nevada Reno and going on to earn a Masters of Theological Studies with a focus on Christian Social Ethics at the Franciscan School of Theology at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, CA.
Rita is an active board member of two non-profits in Nevada, ACTIONN (Acting in Community Together In Organizing Northern Nevada), a local federation of Faith In Action, a national community organizing network, and the Nevada Coalition Against the Death Penalty.
She also spends a great deal of time with her five adult children, ten grandchildren and husband Bob.
Rita serves as the treasurer for the National Association of Catholic Social Action and Mission.
