From the Monstrance to the  Margins: How the Eucharist Prepares Us for Mission

Presenter, Aimee Shelide Mayer, Associate Director of the Catholic Labor Network, described how the Eucharist nourishes us to be the Body of Christ for the Body of Christ. She shared just how the Eucharist nourishes us to live as a Eucharistic people by serving God and others.  As we enter into this mission year of the Eucharistic Revival, we discussed ways to live out our baptismal call of discipleship as social action ministers.

Come Forth: The Promise of Jesus's Greatest Miracle

An open discussion with author and America Media Editor at Large, Rev. James Martin, SJ, on his recent book and its influence on the work of social action ministry.  Fr. Martin took us on a deep dive into the story of the raising of Lazarus found in the Gospel of John 11:1-44 by intentionally connecting the work of rolling away the stone (justice) and untying the burial cloths (charity) as our invitation to participate in Jesus's work.

Answering the Tough Questions By Asking the Right Ones: Catholic Social Teaching and Moral Theology

Sir Dr. Brian Corbin, EdD, Executive Vice President of Member Services for Catholic Charities USA shared how Catholic social teaching (CST) is a significant component of Catholic moral theology. A key takeaway from this conversation was how methodology for answering tough questions plays a role in asking the right questions and engaging the fullness of the Catholic moral tradition as a resource.

Synodal Governance: Building Grassroots Leadership for Laudato Si Ministries

Gathering people to be sent on mission in the community can be difficult. Adam Fitzpatrick from the Center for Mission for the Archdiocese of St. Paul/Minneapolis, shared his experience in decentralized governance and how this research aligns with synodal values. Participants also participated in synodal governance through a simulation exercise of building an environmental ministry.
