In this webinar, Father Thomas Massaro, SJ of Fordham University will review the groundbreaking contributions of the Second Vatican Council (1962-65) that continue to orient church-based social action. The major council documents affirmed a fresh model of the church (as "the people of God"), opened the way to new partnerships (by encouraging dialogue and cooperation with "all people of good will") and recommitted the church to social justice in all its ministries. The boldness of the spirit of Vatican II is readily discerned in the social priorities and initiatives of Pope Francis, as well as the social concerns already expressed by Pope Leo XIV.
